We enjoyed another rain and mud filled week with very little outside time. We've enjoyed our butterflies for a lot longer because of the rain. We haven't had a clear day to safely let them free but, they were able to be released this week.
The girls enjoyed watching the butterflies with their magnifying glasses.
We started a Pete the Cat themed week Monday and all the kids made Pete the Cat shirts with buttons made with do-a-dot markers.
We were able to play on the porch Monday and color with chalk.
The girls and I spent Tuesday morning making crumpled art. This was such a fun art project with beautiful results. We crumpled a piece of paper and painted it with watercolors. Then we uncrumpled and recrumpled the paper and painted it. We repeated crumpling and painting until our paper was covered.
Of course, Audrey had to sample the paint.
Katie also experimented with painting using a feather. She splattered the paint all over her paper and was so proud of the result.
Wednesday we made a special treat! They had a great deal on blueberries at Sprouts so we stocked up and made Daddy a blueberry pie. We also went to storytime at the library with Boaz and Selah.
While we waited for the pie to cool down we all made art. Daddy and the girls used charcoal from the fireplace to draw. We also got a new field guide filled with birds to color.
It was a pretty afternoon so we decided to let the butterflies go before it rained again. Last year our butterflies flew out immediately and we didn't have a good chance to look at them. This year we got to hold the butterflies and they stuck around for awhile before flying off. The girls loved looking at them up close and watching them slowly fly away. A few even landed in the yard on some clover.
If you look at the top of this picture you can see the blur of the butterfly as it flew away.
Next week is Katie's last week of preschool and we are having a bug theme. We got some bug figures and playdoh out Friday for the girls to play with. They made bug imprints and bug eggs out of their playdoh.
We are reading more than ever throughout the day and as a result you can find the girls sitting with a book during a lot of their free time. Katie loves any book about the ocean and Audrey loves books about dogs and animals.
The girls and I have started a Sunday morning tradition of eating muffins for breakfast. Audrey is learning how to drink out of a big girl cup and both girls love drinking out of coffee mugs.
