Sick Baby Girl and Father's Day Part 2

Daddy and Katie on Father's Day morning

We spent Father's Day evening at Rich's parents house.  Katie got to play with some of her cousins and we ate some bbq.  Katie had been feeling a little under the weather since friday but she seemed to be better Sunday afternoon.   Her friend, Knox was sick the previous week so we were worried that she would get sick, too.

Monday and Tuesday Katie seemed to be feeling much better.  Tuesday she got to play with playdough for the first time.  I've been wanting to let her play with playdough for a long time now but she always tried to put it in her mouth.  She still tasted the playdough a little bit but was able to stop herself and play with it more than she ate it.  She liked taking little pieces off it and rolling it into little snakes.

Wednesday was kind of a crazy day.  Rich had to work 2nd shift which meant he came home from work wednesday morning at 6:30 and had to be back at work again at 2:00.  He worked 2:00pm to 10:00pm wednesday.  He's  never had to work that shift before so it was very different for us.  We woke Katie up when Rich got home so she could see him before he had to go to bed.  She was not happy about being woken up which was very unusual for her so we put her back to bed.  She slept until 7:30 and woke up very upset.  We sat on the couch for a little while so she could wake up slow.  She seemed very sore and couldn't seem to get comfortable....then the poor little thing vomited.  I felt so bad for her.  This may sound crazy but, she is 20 months old and has NEVER been sick...not even a cold.  My sweet Dad went to the pharmacy and got some baby ibuprofen and pedialyte for baby girl.  She had a temperature and we called the doctor.  They said it sounded viral and just to wait it out.  So.......
Wednesday Katie, Lillie and I hung out on the couch all day and watched Sesame Street over and over and over.  Sweet little Lillie was so good with Katie.  I think she knew she wasn't feeling good because she laid her head on Katie's lap and was very still.

When Rich got home from work Wednesday night he had a surprise waiting...homemade caramel!  We found this on pinterest, you take sweetened condensed milk, leave it in the can and put it in a crockpot.  Cover the pan completly with water and set it on low for 8 hours.  It was yummy!  My favorite thing to do with it was put it between two chocolate chip cookies and make a caramel cookie sandwich, yuuummmm!

Thursday Katie felt a little better.  She still had a fever but, she wanted to play for little bits at a time.  We skipped storytime so we wouldn't spread anything to the other kiddos.

Friday was a great day for Katie.  We had strawberry banana smoothies for breakfast, played outside, watered the garden and did some painting.

We tried some outside painting using the slide, a paintbrush and small balls.  I taped paper to the slide and Katie dipped the balls in paint and slid them down the slide.  She also painted with the paintbrush and painted herself.

Saturday baby girl felt much, much better.  Grandma Sue and Aunt Vicki came over to visit.  I had a thirty-one party in the afternoon and Katie had fun spending time with her Great Grandma and Great Aunt.  She got her toenails painted for the first time and they are sooo darn cute!
Look at that look on her face...she knows she's cute!

Our Week: Visiting Cousin T and Father's Day Part 1

Daddy, Katie and Lillie hanging out and watching Sesame Street.

My cousin Christina came in for a visit from California.  We hadn't seen each other since Christmas.  We met at our grandparents house and got to go shopping for an engagement ring for T, make dinner together and Katie and T and Aunt Pam got to spend some quality time with Katie.

Grandfather and Katie sitting in the backyard while the burgers cooked on the grill.

Katie ate corn on the cob at dinner.  We originally cut if off the cob but, she seemed to like eating it on the cob better.

The guys and their dogs passed out while all of us girls, including Katie visited.

Love this picture of all of us.

Knox got to come over and play all morning on Tuesday.  Katie and Knox got along great!  They did well sharing and playing together.  They played outside, made an art project and played in the kiddie pool.

Lillie found a turtle in the garden.  It was such a friendly little turtle.  Katie had a lot of fun watching it walk all over the garden.  She tried to say the word "turtle".  She kept wanting to hug the turtle but, I just let her touch it's shell...I didn't think the turtle would appreciate a Katie hug lol!

Katie took the camera and handed it to me.  She kept saying "cheeeeeese!"  She really wanted me to take her picture.

Thursday at the library was bat themed.  Katie made a bat art project.  She loves using glue and this bat had lots of it.

For Father's Day Katie and I got Rich his favorite coffee, Mystic Monk.  Well, Daddy accidentally found out about it a few days before Father's Day and we just couldn't wait to try the coconut iced coffee.  It was delicious!  Here's Daddy and Katie drinking away (Katie has milk).

Katie made an art project for her Dad for Father's Day.  We traced Daddy's foot and Katie's foot and Katie painted the cut outs.  Then we put them together with a poem about following in Daddy's footsteps.

We went to Grandma and Grandpa's the day before Father's Day.  Here's four generations all together...my Uncle Gary, my Grandpa, my Dad, me and Katie.

Our Week: Lots of Water Time

This week has been full of lots of water activities!  We've been wanting to get Katie a kiddie pool for some time now...we were able to go to Target this weekend and pick out this fun little pool.  The sides blow up and are low enough for Katie to get in and out of by herself.

As Daddy started blowing up the pool Katie looked on very cautiously.  I don't think she knew what to think of this strange thing expanding in front of her.

As the pool began to take shape she got more and more interested.  Lillie jumped in as soon as she could and I think that helped Katie be more comfortable with the pool.  She started playing with the blue dinosaur head.  You're supposed to put balls in it's mouth and they fall out through a hole in the bottom and into the pool.

Daddy got in the water with Katie and she really got excited.  She had so much fun splashing around with her Daddy and sliding down the slide.  Lillie was jumping in and out of the pool, too.  The rest of the week it has been impossible to keep one or both of them from jumping in the pool every chance they get.

We took a trip to Copan Lake.  They had a nice sandy beach and there was only us and two teenage girls there the whole time we were there.  We were able to find a spot under the trees in the shade to lay out our blanket and have a picnic.  Katie wore her swimsuit/life jacke for the first time.

When we first stepped into the water Katie was fearless.  She kept walking forward but as the water got deeper she realized she couldn't see her feet and wanted to turn back.  By the end of the afternoon we had her in water up to our chests and she was trying to swim.  She wanted to float back and forth between Rich and I.  She tried to move her arms and kick her legs to move herself along.

Daddy and Katie built sand castles.

Having a picnic in the shade.

We had a playdate with Knox on Tuesday.  Knox wanted Katie to dress up in his superhero outfit which included cowboy hat and cape.  He put the hat on her head and wanted me to put the cape on Katie.  I think Katie was very confused...Knox was pointing at her and laughing...he loved her dressing up.
It wasn't long before Knox wanted to wear his superhero costume...that boy is too funny!

Katie had a wonderful time making some more beautiful art for the fridge.  She liked using her paintbrush and her fingers for this project.

Katie helped me make cilantro lime tacos for dinner.  She liked adding all the ingredients to the food processor.  Of course, she had to taste test them before she added them.  Her favorite was the almonds...mmmmm.

She loves to sing and dance.  She turned over her Easter basket and played it like a drum while she sang.

All the studs are up in our den!  Next step is the electrical and the doors!

Katie and I planted watermelons.

Our Week: Memorial Day and Working on the Den

Rich took this picture when he got home from work one morning.  He thought Katie would be asleep and he could catch a picture of her sleeping.  Instead he walked in to her standing up, wide awake saying "Cheeeeeeese!"

We've been quite busy this week with all of our usual activities plus visiting family and working on our den.
We're still working with Katie on potty training.  We're taking it slow and she only sits on the potty when she wants to.  We sing songs and make it a game.  We've had one potty success so far but, we're in no hurry.

Daddy and Katie singing and clapping while Katie sits on the potty.

We have a lot of huge frogs in our yard.  A few live in the vegetable garden and at least two live in the flower garden.  Katie loves following them around the yard saying "Hop, hop, hop."

Katie got her very own toolbox to help Daddy work on the den.  This was Rich's toolbox when he was little.  We bought some play tools at the grocery store to put in her toolbox.  She also puts random tools and objects in it that she finds in the garage.

We went to visit Rich's parents this week.  Katie had fun playing with her cousin Ethan.  He gave her one of his old dump trucks and she loves it!

We went to my grandparents for Memorial Day.  We're all big coffee drinkers and Katie is getting an early start.  Pops was pouring tiny bits of coffee in Katie's tiny coffee cup.  I'm not sure she really likes the taste of the coffee but she likes drinking it anyway, especially when it comes from Pops lol!

 Aunt Vicki and Katie

Gotta love the overalls, perfect for working in the garage.

Rich was getting really hot working in the garage with his beard so he decided to shave it off for the summer.  Katie was really confused at first...she kept looking at her Daddy out of the corner of her eyes and then laughing at him.  This picture was when she first saw him without his beard.

She looks like such a big girl sitting there coloring.

We went to Knox's house for our playdate.  Those two have such a good time together.  As we were leaving Knox was sitting down to eat lunch.  Katie thought she would help by putting on his shoes.

One of Katie's favorite things to do while Daddy works in the garage is take the scraps of wood, take them outside and stack them.

Katie's favorite book is still The Foot Book by Dr. Seuss.  I think we've read that every night this week.  We read to Katie before bed every night.  We pick out a book then usually she picks out a book.  She always picks The Foot Book.

It's so much fun to work in the garden with Katie.  I have never had a better looking vegetable garden and I think the reason is Katie wants to go down there so much that I get a lot of work done.

She loves eating the sugar snap peas.  Sometimes when I pick them none of them make it into the house because she eats them all.

Playing in her new dump truck Cousin Ethan gave her.

Katie is learning so much while we build our den.  Her Daddy is so patient with her.  He always takes the time to stop and show her what he's doing and she tries to copy him.  He taught her how to use the square to measure and draw straight lines.  She worked really hard and was able to put a pencil up against the straight edge and draw a straight line.  She's also learning how to use screwdrivers and other tools.

Katie is working on learning her shapes.  We drew huge shapes on the patio with chalk and Katie walked on the lines.

We went to my Dad's house to see the new baby goat that was born on Thursday.  Katie wasn't as interested in the baby as we thought she would be.  She liked petting on Sugar the horse....

And hugging on Sugar....

She petted the baby goat a little bit...

And climbed the dirt hill with Daddy...
I think she liked feeding the big goats leaves.  She fed her some leaves then tried to eat one herself lol!
