Week of May 18-Too Cold Outside

We've had a nice week...although we've only had one day of getting to play outside.  Daddy and Katie built a fence in the backyard right by the vegetable garden.  The plan is to plant morning glories all along the fence to help beautify the vegetable garden area.  We'll build on this idea each year until we have a little arbor/garden area.

Little girl loved helping and filled her bucket up with the sod that Daddy was breaking up to make room to plant the flowers.

Daddy and Katie working hard.

We had a playdate with Mr. Knox on Wednesday.  The two kiddos played dress-up...

 ...played with puppets...and

...played with the doctor kit...

One of our boredom busters for when the weather is just too cold to go outside is playing with dried beans.  Katie enjoys measuring and pouring them into different containers.

Amazingly Katie fell asleep with Daddy one afternoon.  It's very difficult to get her to go to sleep anyplace except her carseat or her bed but, she was worn out.  Of course, Rich soaked it up!

At storytime on Thursday the librarian had made an igloo out of milk jugs.  Katie crawled right in and was taking the other kids by the hand and dragging them in, too.

On friday we had a doctor's appointment.  I'm 34 weeks now so we did our final ultrasound to check the weight of the baby.  She (it is definitly a she) is about 5.25 lbs.  We also found out that I'm already 2-3cm dilated.  The doctor thinks baby sister should be here before her due date (May 4).  We're hoping she lasts until 36 weeks.  Katie was a few weeks early so we expect this baby to be early also.  Now to think of a name...

Saturday we got busy working on baby sister's room.  We got it all cleared out and now have all of her furniture scattered in every room of the house.  We'll get to paint this weekend and our house we'll be put back together again.

Sunday was COLD and it was snowing so what did we decide to do?  Go to the zoo, of course!  No, we're not completly crazy.  We have a zoo membership so we get in free and we wanted to see the new buildings that had opened up the week before without worrying about the crowds.  Plus Katie really needed some open spaces to explore and run since we haven't been able to go outside.  We bundled up and hurried to the buildings.
We visited the chimps first.  Katie had fun climbing on the rock wall in front of the exhibit.

In one of the buildings there was a cave that Katie ran in and out of.

The desert building had a big room with benches and lots of varieties of finches flying freely.  We all sat on the benches and watched the birds.

Also in the desert building were different varieties of reptiles.  Katie and I looked for them in the exhibit.

Today is Monday...our slowest day of the week.  It's still too cold to play outside so we are really looking forward to some nice weather days ahead.  This little girl needs to run off some energy!

Week of March 11, 2013

We have had a wonderful week playing outside in this beautiful weather.  We're busy building fences for morning glories, mulching flowerbeds and spading the vegetable gardens.  As always Katie is right there with us, anxious to help!

Despite the frigid temperature of the water Katie dives right in.  She loves drinking from the hose and helping water the flowers that are starting to come up.

Kissie face for Daddy

Daddy and Katie got to go for another bike ride

Friday night was spent at my Grandma and Grandpa's eating burgers and visiting.  Katie helped Aunt Vicki make a cake...don't you love the expressions on their faces?!

Sunday it was so cloudy and cold outside....ugh.  Katie made the best of it by painting all morning.  She is doing so well sitting at her picnic table and doing her art projects.  She is very serious and qiet when she works on a project.  She makes beautiful artwork!

Starting Again

Well, it's high time I start getting in the routine of blogging again.  It's been awhile since I've done weekly posts so I'm thinking about giving a weekly update (complete with pictures) on Mondays.  So today I'll just do a general update and then I'll try to start putting up a weekly update on Mondays.

Sweet Daddy got Katie and I Valentine's...we both got a card, Ms. Katie got a frog and I got beautiful flowers!
Katie insisted on her frog hanging out with her all day, including during playdough time.  She now sleeps with him every night.
My three people (yes, Lillie is a "people") relaxing and watching cartoons.
Katie got to play in the little bit of snow we've gotten this winter.  She ran around the yard yelling "It's snowing!"
Grandmother and Grandfather came for a visit the weekend before last.  Ms. Katie was very excited about getting her picture taken.

Ms. Katie is such a a little artist.  She loves doing projects and colors on a daily basis.  She draws circles and is now adding arms, legs, hair, eyes and mouths to those circles.
Daddy and Katie broke out the bike and bike trailer and got to go on a ride.
Katie has started "reading" her books to us.  Some of her favorites she can quote from or at least tell us what's going on in the story.
Knox comes over at least a couple times a week.  Those two are so cute together and have lots of fun making art projects and just playing around the house.
My birthday was yesterday...Katie and Daddy made me a delicous cake.  Katie liked icing the cake even though she ate more icing than ended up on the cake.
Today Katie painted for over an hour.  She used toilet paper rolls, paint brushes and of course her hands to make some beautiful, very colorful paintings.

To catch you up with the rest of what's going on with the Vaughan household....

Baby sister is doing great!  She's due May 4 but, we're expecting her around the middle to end of April.  We've got all the baby stuff including crib, changing table, etc.  We just have to paint her room and put it all together.  We're doing a bird theme for her room.  We have yet to come up with a name but, are slowly narrowing it down.

We've started our garden and Katie has had lots of fun digging in the dirt.  Daddy tilled (sp) the garden, Papa brought in some horse manure and the peas are planted!  We'll see how many peas make it into the house this year.  Last year Katie ate every one straight out of the garden (lol!)
