A Day in Our Little World

I thought I'd mix up this week's blog by showing a little more details about what our daily routine is like.  Our days are always packed full, some more than others.  Of course, with two little girls there's always plenty of laundry and dishes to do but, our days are also full of fun activities to keep the girls busy.

Katie has started a new curriculum that we are really enjoying.  Each day has several games, activities and crafts that go along with the week's letter.  We do an activity every little bit throughout the day, usually when Audrey is taking a nap and I can devote more one on one time with Katie.  I try to do as many things with Audrey involved as possible but, some of the activities have small pieces and aren't very Audrey friendly.

One of the first activities we start our day off with is our calendar.  Katie can pick day of the week, check the weather, tell us her mood and we also talk about our Bible verse for the week.  Down at the bottom is her chicka chicka boom boom tree.  At the end of each week we talk about the letter we covered that week and she puts that letter sticker on her tree.  This is from the book "Chicka Chicka Boom Boom" that we also read each week to help us review our letters.
We keep all of the pieces for our calendar time in the little drawers.  In the big drawers are Mommy's tools drawer (scissors, Velcro, etc.), Katie's daily work drawer (extras to her calendar, Bible verse cards, her daily notebook, etc.), Katie's boredom busters drawer (stickers, lacing cards, small manipulatives, etc.), a writing drawer (markers, notebooks, colored pencils, crayons, etc) and a paper drawer.

We usually do some kind of cooking at some point during the day.  One day this week we made cookies.  Katie loves holding the eggs when we make cookies.

Katie and Daddy made pancakes on another day and Daddy made a pancake in the shape of the letter of the week, O!

Audrey had her first taste of pancakes with applesauce.

There's always lots of creative play going on around here.  Katie used her mixer to pretend to make cookies and bread.  She kept repeating, "I'm the baker!  I make bread!"

Little sister is always trying to keep up with big sister.  Katie served her some of her pretend bread.

Crafts always make it into our daily activities.  Stickers, markers, scissors and glue are constants around here.

Katie is so proud of all her masterpieces and they all make it onto the fridge.  Every week we empty the fridge so there's room for the next pieces of art.

Audrey has discovered that she can see herself in the washer and dryer and this has quickly become a favorite spot for her to hang around.

We always try to incorporate fun, little crafts and learning experiences into our everyday routine.  I got these tiny mailboxes and we're using them to write notes back and forth to each other.  Katie is so excited to give and get mail.  Although Audrey is too young to understand, Katie enjoys giving her mail.

Our poor little stir crazy girls and doggie.  We can't wait for spring where we can go outside everyday.  We did get a few days this weekend to hang out outside and we took full advantage of the nice weather.

Small children's abilities are many times underestimated.  Katie grabbed her Daddy's measuring tape and began measuring everything in the room.  She is starting to understand this concept and when we asked her how long things were she would reply, "Three!"  It's all play to her right now but, she's learning so much!

Of course everyday is full of reading...lots and lots of reading!

Then somehow, throughout the day I'm also able to keep the house relatively put together!
