Week of April 8: Lots of Gardening

The weather has been just right this past week for lots of outside time and to put the finishing touches on all of this year's garden plans.  We're expecting baby sister any day now so every day we take the opportunity to spend that little bit of extra time with Katie and get something else accomplished before we become a family of four.

Katie and I planted the rest of the bell peppers.  We now have red and green bell peppers, roma tomatoes, sugar snap peas and basil planted.

Katie has had fun searching in the garden and under rocks for roly polys, worms, ants and other bugs.

We were able to head to the park where Katie fed the ducks and played on the playground.

Story time this week was wonderful, as usual.  We learned about bugs.  The kids got to make butterfly hats and drink nectar (kool-aid) from flowers.  Katie liked her butterfly hat so much she begged me to take a picture.

Daddy and Katie tilled up the last raised bed in our vegetable garden.  This year instead of vegetables we planted flowers including poppies, black-eyed susans, forget-me-nots and many others.  We just threw some seeds out there and we'll see what comes up.

Katie has loved playing in the mud.  She likes to get water in her cups, pour it on dirt and make big mud piles.

This is pretty gross, but pretty cute, too...Katie drinking out of the muddy water just like Lillie.  Daddy tried to capture a picture of this but, Lillie wasn't cooperating.

In hopes of getting baby sister to come out and meet us and for the enjoyment of going we took a trip to the zoo Saturday.  Since we have a family pass now we've gotten to go on many more zoo trips and we can pick and choose which animals we'd like to see.  This time we rode the train to the back of the zoo and visited all the big animals (lions, tigers, giraffes, etc.)

Katie's been working on her tricycle skills.  Her feet can reach the pedals so she's working on getting the pedal pushing down.

Today Katie and I took a trip to the greenhouse in town.  We had such a great time!  We were the only ones there so I got some great tips from the employees and Katie got to run all over looking at the flowers and all the landscaping they have set up.  Katie also got to see and pet newborn kittens.  After talking with the employees about classes they offered they decided to set up a class for young children for the summer. So starting in June Katie will get to take a class and learn about plants.  I'm always looking for ways to keep her busy and for ways for her to interact with other kids so I can't wait!  When we got home Katie helped me plant the Irish moss we got for our perennial bed.

We're still waiting on baby sister's arrival.  The doctors keep saying "any day now" so we just have to wait and see.  If she is born April 20 Katie and her will be exactly 2 1/2 years apart.
