End of March, Beginning of April, 2014: Daddy's Vacation

We have had a busy, busy two weeks!  Rich had a long vacation so we got to work on some projects and get lots of family time in.

Audrey made her first work of art using crayons.  She was much more interested in eating the crayons than in coloring but, she started to get the hang of it.  She loved banging the crayons down onto the paper.

She also tried out her first sensory tub.  She was able to play for a few minutes before the binky came out of her mouth and the beans started going into her mouth.  In a few months she'll be able to play more with sensory tubs but, for now we'll let that be big sister's activity.  The sensory tub Audrey got to play in was spring themed.  The girls had black and brown beans for dirt, Easter grass, fake flowers, shovels and pots.

Katie worked more on her Handwriting without Tears activities.  She made Mat Man-a character used in the curriculum to help kiddos learn about body parts and how to draw humanoid-type figures.  She made this figure by herself, then later went back and added a body.  She also made Mat Man sad, happy and mad using different pieces.

Sweet little Boaz came over to play...the kiddos had fun making rain, cloud and sun puppets.

One of the big projects over Daddy's vacation was getting the girls' swingset that we had bought them last fall put up.  It was a little chilly but, Katie was so excited to help.  Uncle Benny was over for a visit so we all went outside and helped sort the gazillion pieces.

The ladder was one of the first pieces to be put together and Katie was so excited to try it out.

Audrey tried helping, too.

Then, Katie tried out the slide.

Katie has started soccer!  She has had two practices and two games.  I would say soccer definitely isn't her "thing" but, she's having lots of fun.  Her friend Evan is on her team so that makes it even more fun.

Daddy and Katie practiced before her first game.

By the end of the first game both girls just needed Daddy hugs.

Audrey is absolutely loving this beautiful weather and the chance to go outside.  She gets into EVERYTHING!

Daddy finished the swingset in a few days and the girls had the rest of the week to enjoy it.

We made a trip out to the lake for a picnic.

Katie brought her nature bag and nature hunt so we looked for items on her nature hunt list.

Daddy taught Katie the fine art of rock skipping.

Daddy tried to start a forest fire with a magnifying glass lol!

We found tons of fossils on the shore.  Almost every rock along the beach had some kind of fossil on it.  Katie had fun looking at the fossils with her magnifying glass.

Katie and Daddy climbed up the shore a little ways.

We started a bird theme.  We used black and brown beans, Easter grass, shovels, pink felt "worms", bird figurines, bird houses and tweezers to use as beaks.

The sensory tub was enjoyed by friends as they found and counted "worms"

The kiddos also made paper plate birds.

Katie and Daddy made popcorn on the stove.

Audrey loves spaghetti!
