Week of March 8, 2015

This week was all about weather.  The kids were really interested in this theme and it was the perfect time for it because we've had everything from snow and sleet to rain and sunshine recently.

We started off Monday by reading books on weather and learning the three main elements that make up weather, sun, air and water.
We read about the different cloud types and how clouds are formed.  Then the kids made their own clouds with puffy paint.  They mixed equal parts of glue and shaving cream together to make textured, white puffy paint.  Then they painted their clouds.

We had a lot of outside time this week as the weather warms up.
The kids' absolute favorite activity outside lately has been digging in the dirt.  Lately, as the weather has warmed Katie has been finding worms.
She was very excited to show off her worm to Audrey and I.

Another fun weather activity we did this week is learn how clouds produce rain.  The kids took a jar filled with water and added shaving cream to the top to represent a cloud.  Then, they added drops of colored water to the "cloud" until it was saturated and "rained" into the jar.  The kids were thrilled with the results and wanted to repeat the experiment.

We also used fingerpaint to make handprint suns.

We had several picnics outside this week.

Jack got to hop around the backyard which turned out to be quite the adventure.  Trying to keep him from getting too close to the fence was a challenge.  But, the girls loved having their bunny out and Jack got some great exercise.

One of our last weather activities of the week was making sun and cloud puppets.

The girls go some new Usborne books this week and spent a long time reading them over and over again outside.

We made a new garden themed sensory tubs using brown and black beans, shovels, Easter grass, seed packets, small cups and glittery carrots with feather tops that were at Hobby Lobby.

We are also trying out a new sensory tub setup.  Instead of one huge sensory tub that is always out and kind of in the way we are trying two smaller sensory tubs.  Each girl has their own tub and they can easily be put up and out of the way.
