Week of December 28, 2014

We have had a wonderful start to the new year!

We went on a walk around the neighborhood to visit Mrs. Linda and had an impromptu storytime at her house.

Katie has been working on writing and is so proud of herself.  We are, too!  She's been working on random letters for awhile but, lately we have been writing words for her to practice and she has been coloring a picture as part of her writing practice, too.  This particular day we read a book called "Millions of Cats".  Katie practiced writing her C's, then the word CAT.  Of course, she had to color her cat pink, her favorite color.
Audrey did a great job of coloring next to sister while she did her writing.  This was the first time we had tried writing with the distraction of Audrey.  Usually we wait until naptime but, both girls did very well and Katie was able to concentrate while Audrey looked through the book and colored.

Both the girls are so good to help out with cleaning around the house.  After writing practice and a snack they got some damp towels and cleaned their new table.

Katie wanted to set up a sensory tub during one of Audrey's naps this week so she gathered some sea shells and her Little Mermaid toys for some water play.
She listened to the sea shells trying to hear the ocean.

Both girls did some water color art this week.  Knox and Brex came over while we were working on our paintings so they joined in also.

Daddy and the girls made a hideout under the kitchen table.  The girls played and read under it all morning.

We are going to learn about penguins this coming week so this weekend we set up a penguin sensory tub.  We poured water and some blue food coloring into baggies to freeze.  Then we added small stones and our penguin figurines.  Both girls had fun with this sensory tub until their little hands got too cold.

Audrey loves using the words hot and cold right now so this was a perfect activity for her.

My favorite people making their silly faces.

I've been waiting to do this sensory tub for months.  Katie loves hot chocolate so we made a hot chocolate sensory tub.  We dyed rice brown and added chocolate extract.  The girls and I made stoves out of boxes.  Then we added cups, pans, spoons and white pom pom "marshmallows".  The chocolate scented rice smelled really good and the girls played off and on with this tub all day.
