Katie's First Swim

Katie is a HUGE fan of water...I think that girl would stay in the tub all day if we'd let her!  She loves to splash and tries to lick the water.  Anytime we turn on water she smiles and reaches out for it.
She usually gets her baths in the sink because it's much easier than bending over the tub but she's getting ready to outgrow the sink.

She likes playing in the bathtub with bubbles.

We've been wanting to take Katie to the lake but the sandy beach is closed because the water level is down so we decided we would take her to the swimming pool down the road.  We had never been before and we were pleasantly surprised.  They had a big, shallow wading area for the little ones and there was some fountains that sprayed water into the wading area.  At first baby girl didn't know what to think but pretty soon she was splashing and licking at the water.  She was too cute!

This is too cute!  She was keeping herself close to her Daddy because she wasn't quite sure what to think about all the water yet.

She was really studying the other kids splashing around in the water.

She splashed in the water so much that her hat got weighted down where she couldn't see and we had to take it off.  We had to put sunscreen on her head so it looked all greasy.  We didn't want to take any chances of her getting sunburned.

She was worn out by the time we got back in the car and we thought she would take a looong nap after all that swimming.  Well we thought wrong!  She slept 45 minutes when we got home and woke up happy and ready to go again!

Story Time at the Library

For those of you who aren't aware Katie LOVES books!  Not only does she love chewing on them (as all babies do) she loves sitting in your lap and listening to stories and looking at the pictures.  Her attention span is amazing when it comes to books.

Apparently she just read something that cracked her up.

Reading her first library book

Our library has storytime every thursday for preschoolers and Katie and I have been going since she was about four months old.  The librarian reads books, they sing songs and do finger plays.  Katie loves being around the other children and really pays attention.  Today when we walked into the library the librarian commented on how well she paid attention and how amazed she was of Katie's love of books.  We read to Katie everday and hopefully we are instilling a love that will last a lifetime.

We try to get to the library early so we can pick out books before the other kids get there and it's crowded.  Katie likes to sit on the floor while I grab the books.

She likes to grab books off the shelf, too so I give her board books that she won't be able to tear up.

After we pick out books we go to the storytime area.  There's always puzzles sitting out for the kids to play with before storytime starts.  Katie likes to chew on the pieces.

At the end of storytime all the kids do the teddy bear song.  They each get a felt cutout of a teddy bear and they listen to a song that tells them to put the teddy bear on their head, foot, elbow, etc.  Katie just holds onto her teddy bear really tight and watches the other kids.

And that's our Thursday morning at storytime!

Father's Day and Katie 8-month-old

Katie turned 8-months-old on monday.  It is amazing how quick our baby girl learns and what all she can do now.  She is growing up way too quickly for me!  Here's an update on everything that she's up to.  Be prepared for tons of pictures!  They were all taken on her 8 month bday.
*She's slept through the night since Christmas but now she goes to bed about 7:00 and wakes up about 6:30 when her Daddy comes home from work.
*She has eaten and loved all the food we have given her:  avocado, peas, carrots, green beans, sweet potatoes, peaches, nectarines, prunes, apples, zucchini, butternut squash, butter peas, blueberries, mashed potatoes, bananas, watermelon, graham crackers, cheerios and occassionally some of Daddy's sweet tea.  If we're eating she wants to eat too!
*She can go from on her belly to sitting up.
*She crawls.
*She pulls herself up onto her knees.
*She says Mama when she's upset or tired and Dada when she's playing.  She also says gaga, lala, ada, baba, makes the t sound and likes to blow raspberries.
*She loves reading and we go every week to storytime at the library.
*She thinks our dog Zak is hilarious and tries to get his attention any way she can.  He will lick her all over her toes and face and she thinks it's great.
*She has two bottom teeth.
*Her favorite thing to play with is her binky strap that attaches her binky to her shirt.  She also likes my purse strap.
*She's getting more hair and it's coming in blonde.  It's so light it's hard to see by looking at the pictures.

Wrestling with Daddy

This one just cracks me up

Isn't that outfit the cutest thing?

Such a beautiful girl!

Rich had his first father's day and it worked out really well.  My Dad and his wife came over for jalapeno popper burgers and they got to play with Katie (which who wouldn't love to do that?).  We had a nice relaxing day.  The next day I made Rich his favorite meal paprika chicken, creamed corn with bacon and mashed potatoes.

Katie helped me make boston cream pie cupcakes (which we were too full to eat)
